ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Emilia Sjostrand will be the first woman in program history to represent San José State at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday. A sophomore from Stockholm, Sweden, won the Mountain West championship in both the long and triple jump events.
- Sjostrand qualified for both the Women's Long Jump and Triple Jump events. She is currently seeded No. 10 in the Long Jump and No. 6 in the Triple Jump nationally
- The sophomore will compete at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10 in the Women's Long Jump and 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 in the Women's Triple Jump
- Her personal best mark of 13.71m (44'11.75") is the third-best mark of all-time in Sjostrand's home country of Sweden
- The jumper submitted the first and second best distances in school history in the Women's Long Jump with marks of 6.48m (21'3.25") and 6.29m (20'7.75"). She now holds the school record
- Sjostrand took the MW Women's Triple Jump title after submitting a school and MW record-setting and personal best distance of 13.71m (44'11.75"). She also jumped a second-best all-time mark of 13.64m (44'9") in the same day
- She was also named Women's Performer of the Meet at the MW Indoor Championships for winning two titles in as many days
- In SJSU's Indoor Track and Field record book, Sjostrand owns all five of the top Triple Jump performances listed. She also has the top Long Jump performance in school history
UP NEXT: Sjostrand will rejoin the rest of SJSU Track & Field for the outdoor season at the Cardinal Classic held at Stanford University on March 18.
