San José State Eighth at 76th Western Intercollegiate

DAY 1 RESULTS

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -
Carl Corpus shot 1-under 69 to lead the San José State men's golf team on day one of the 76th Western Intercollegiate, presented by Titleist, on Monday at Pasatiempo Golf Club. The Spartans are in a tie for eighth place with an overall score of 354, two shots off No. 23 Colorado State.
 


Cal took the lead with an impressive 16-under score of 334, one shot clear of No. 22 Oregon (-15) and five ahead of No. 8 Stanford (-11). Cal's Aaron Du carded a 7-under 63 and holds the 18-hole lead, matching the low round in Western Intercollegiate history (Jason Allred, Pepperdine, 2000 and John Streibich, Xavier, 2007). Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen, the third-ranked amateur in the world, finished with a 64 (-6) along with Oregon's Greg Solhaug 64 (-6).

  • Corpus is currently in a tie for 18th place, carding five birdies and an eagle on hole No. 9
  • Kotaro Murata made four birdies on his opening nine holes, shooting 3-under 32, and finished even-par on the day
  • Luigi Wong tallied four birdies and shot an even-par 70
  • Zubair Firdaus posted a 1-over 71 after a 34 on the front nine, carding two birdies and an eagle on hole No. 9
  • Kristopher Stiles was the third Spartan to make an eagle on No. 9 this afternoon
