SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—
Dalton Bowling went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in the first game and 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in the second game to lead the San José State baseball team (15-13, 8-4 Mountain West) in two losses against UC Santa Barbara (21-9, 6-3 Big West). The Spartans lost 6-5 in game one and 12-2 in game two. 

GAME ONE

  • The Spartans scored three runs in the top of the ninth to extend the game before UC Santa Barbara walked it off in the bottom of the inning.
  • Bowling's home run was his team-leading sixth of the season, a two-run blast in the top of the ninth to bring the Spartans within one run. 
  • Theo Hardy went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and the game-tying RBI single in the ninth when the Spartans were down to their final strike.
  • Right-handed pitcher Keaton Chase started the game and tossed 4.1 innings, allowing only two earned runs on six hits while striking out three.
  • Left-handed pitcher Jesse Gutierrez threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief and did not allow a hit while striking out four of the six batters he faced.
  • Jack Colette reached base safely in four out of five plate appearances, drawing three walks and an HBP.
  • Matt Spear threw out an attempted base stealer, his Mountain-West leading 14th CSB of the season.
  • The game had to be postponed in the middle of the sixth inning on April 11 because of fog and was resumed at 12 p.m. on April 12.

GAME TWO

  • LHP Corey Sanchez tossed 2.2 innings of relief, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out two.
  • LHP Trevor Ernt pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
  • Colette hit his 11th double of the season. He is one shy of the team lead for doubles as Hunter Dorraugh and Charles McAdoo each have 12.
  • Jake Maroney recorded his second CSB of the season.
