SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San José State baseball team travels to San Luis Obispo, Calif. this week to play the Cal Poly Mustangs on Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans and Mustangs will resume their game from February 20 which was suspended after the eighth inning due to darkness with the Spartans trailing, 11-10. Following its conclusion, the two teams will play their regularly scheduled contest. All of the action gets underway at 4 p.m. at Baggett Stadium. PREVIOUS SERIES
- The Spartans swept UNLV on the weekend, winning all three games over the Rebels by at least four runs.
- Theo Hardy and Jack Colette led the Spartans offensively in the series as both players hit .500 or better.
- Hardy went 7-for-13 with one double and two RBIs while Colette went 6-for-12 with one home run, one triple and four RBIs.
- Jeriah Lewis played in the first two games and went 4-for-7 with one home run, one double and three RBIs.
- Friday's starter, right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark, tossed 6.2 innings, allowing only two runs on three hits while striking out three.
- Saturday's starter, left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson, pitched 6.0 innings, giving up only two earned runs on four hits while striking out six.
- Sunday's starter, Keaton Chase completed 5.0 innings, surrendering only three runs on five hits while striking out two.
- LHP Jack White pitched in relief on Friday and Sunday, totaling 2.1 innings and striking out six batters while not allowing any runs.
- RHP Darren Jansen also made two scoreless appearances, striking out four and giving up only one hit in 2.0 innings of work.
WHERE THE SPARTANS RANK IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
- The Spartans rank first in the Mountain West Conference in opposing batting average. Opponents are hitting only .258 against the Spartans.
- Thompson ranks third in ERA at 3.58.
- Clark is tied for seventh in strikeouts with 45.
- White is tied for first with five wins.
- Matt Spear ranks second in runners caught stealing with 13 this season.
- Four Spartans rank in the top 10 in doubles. Charles McAdoo is tied for third with 13, Hunter Dorraugh and Dalton Bowling are tied for fifth with 12 each and Colette is tied for eighth with 11.
- Bowling is tied for fourth in home runs with seven, fourth in RBIs with 35 and is eighth in slugging percentage (.573).
- Colette is second in stolen bases with nine and Lewis is eighth with seven.
- Hardy and Dorraugh are tied for seventh in walks with 21 each.
- Four Spartans have been named the Mountain West Player of the Week in 2023: Jack Colette (April 10), Charles McAdoo (April 3), Robert Hamchuk (March 13) and Hunter Dorraugh (Feb. 20).
VS. CAL POLY
- The Cal Poly Mustangs are 11-21 this season and are coming off a series loss on the weekend at CSU Bakersfield.
- The Spartans are 52-45-1 in series all-time against the Mustangs.
- The Spartans defeated the Mustangs, 3-1, on March 8, 2022.
- LHP Ethan Ross was the winning pitcher of the contest thanks to a scoreless inning of relief in which he struck out two batters.
- Colette hit the game-winning two-run RBI double in the sixth inning.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to Fresno, Calif. for four games against the Fresno State Bulldogs from April 21-23. The Spartans are officially listed as the home team on Friday as the game will serve as the makeup contest from a postponed game on March 5. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. and complete the series finale on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. All four games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
