Spartans Get Comeback Win Over Nevada, Sanfilippo Earns 100th Career Victory

RENO, Nev.—Hunter Dorraugh and Robert Hamchuk each hit home runs to lead the San José State baseball team (12-10, 5-3 Mountain West) in a 7-6 win over Nevada (12-14, 3-7 Mountain West) on Saturday night at Don Weir Field. Trailing 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning, Hamchuk connected for a three-run shot to give the Spartans a lead they would never relinquish. The Spartans' head coach, Brad Sanfilippo, earned his 100th career win.

  • Hamchuk and Dorraugh hit their respective second and third home runs of the season.
  • Dorraugh's home run was a two-run shot in the the fifth inning that tied the game after the Spartans had fallen behind, 3-1.
  • Nathan Cadena went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.
  • Jeriah Lewis went 2-for-5 with an RBI single.
  • Charles McAdoo went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. The Spartans' second baseman extended his hit streak to 11 games.
  • Left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson tossed 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out four.
  • Right-handed pitcher Keaton Chase earned his second win of the season as he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing only two hits while striking out three.
  • LHP Jack White pitched a scoreless eighth inning, limiting Nevada to only one hit and recording one strikeout.
  • RHP Darren Jansen earned his second save of the season as he closed out the game in the top of the ninth by registering three strikeouts and surrendering only one run and one hit.
  • Sanfilippo is the fifth head coach in SJSU history to achieve 100 career wins, joining Walt Williams (1948-56), Ed Sobczak (1957-69), Gene Menges (1970-86) and Sam Piraro (1987-2002, 2004-12). He needs 30 wins to tie Williams for the fourth most wins in program history.
