Spartans Dominate in First Day of Fresno State Invitational

DAY ONE RESULTS

FRESNO, Calif.—
Fabio Hessling won the Men's Hammer Throw to lead San José State in the first day of competition at the Fresno State Invitational.

  • Hessling earned the fourth-best Men's Hammer Throw record in school history with his distance of 65.32m (214'3"). The distance was also a Warmerdam Field facility record, beating out Evan Stork of Sacramento St.'s previous record of 64.17m (210'6")
  • Hessling won one of only two events on the day, the Men's and Women's Hammer Throw.
  • Teammate Bryson Smith placed second in the same event with a mark of 62.95m (206'6").
  • Any of Hessling's or Smith's throws in the event would have been good for at least second place.
  • This is now Hessling's second first place finish on the season in the Men's Hammer Throw. He also took first place at the Cal Opener on March 4.

UP NEXT: The Spartans face a full slate of events on the second day of the Fresno State Invitational on Saturday, April 29.
