Spartans Set for Early Week Clashes Against UC Santa Barbara

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Coming off a series win over New Mexico, the San José State baseball team returns to the state of California this week. The Spartans will play the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Monday, April 10 at 5:05 p.m. and Tuesday, April 11 at 3:05 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

PREVIOUS SERIES

  • The Spartans took two out of three games against the New Mexico Lobos, winning 8-3 on Friday and 14-3 on Saturday.
  • Jack Colette and Hunter Dorraugh led the Spartans offensively in the series.
  • In three games, Colette hit 7-for-14 (.467) with a three-run home run, two triples, two doubles and six RBIs. Overall, he led the Spartans with 16 total bases. On Saturday, he went 4-for-6 and hit two triples, becoming the eighth Spartan in school history to hit two triples in a game.
  • Dorraugh hit above .500 for the series, going 7-for-12 (.583). All of his hits were singles and he tallied three RBIs, two walks and an HBP.
  • Left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson had a sensational performance on Friday, tossing 8.0 innings and allowing only two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six.
  • LHP Jack White earned his Mountain-West leading fifth win of the season on Saturday as he pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.

WHERE THE SPARTANS RANK IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST

  • The Spartans rank first in the Mountain West Conference in opposing batting average. Opponents are hitting only .265 against Spartan pitchers.
  • The Spartans have the third-best team ERA at 5.24.
  • SJSU leads the conference in throwing out base runners as Matt Spear and Jake Maroney have combined to throw out 14 attempted base stealers. Spear leads the conference in CSB's with 13. 
  • Thompson is third in the conference with an ERA of 3.32.
  • RHP Jonathan Clark is ninth in the conference in innings pitched (41.1) and seventh in strikeouts (42).
  • The Spartans are second in the conference in doubles. Charles McAdoo is third with 12, Dalton Bowling is fifth with 11 and Dorraugh and Colette are tied for sixth with 10 each.
  • Colette is fifth in stolen bases with seven.
  • Theo Hardy is fourth in walks with 20.
  • Dorraugh is fourth (.435) and Theo Hardy is sixth (.430) in on-base percentage.
  • Dalton Bowling is eighth in RBIs with 28.
  • Dorraugh is 10th in OPS at .959.

VS. UC SANTA BARBARA

  • The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are 19-9 this season.
  • From March 4-24, they went on an 11-game winning streak.
  • Since their win streak was snapped, the Gauchos are 3-6 with series losses against Fresno State and Cal State Fullerton and a single-game loss to Santa Clara.
  • The Spartans are 54-52 all time in series against the Gauchos.
  • The Spartans last played the Gauchos in 2018 in a three-game series in which the Gauchos earned a sweep.
  • Colette is the only member of the current Spartans' roster who appeared in the 2018 series. He did not register an at-bat but instead pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in a blowout loss. The native of Torrance, Calif. has not pitched for the Spartans since the 2019 season.
