ATHENS, Ga.—Saving her best round for last, Antonia Malate shot a 1-under 71 in the final round to help lead the No. 9 San José State women's golf team back to the NCAA Championships for the 23rd time in school history as the Spartans finished third at the NCAA Athens Regional played at the University of Georgia Golf Course on Wednesday.

- The Spartans shot a 295 in the final round and finished the regional at 14-over 878.
- Malate finished ninth individually at 1-under 215. She almost had a clean card with two birdies on holes 3 and 18, 15 pars and a bogey on the 10th hole.
- Malate was one of six players in the field to shoot 1-under on the par 3s. She was sixth in the field in pars made for the three rounds with 40.
- Kajsa Arwefjäll and Lucia Lopez Ortega finished tied for 16th with two others. Lopez Ortega shot a 2-over 74 for the round with two birdies, while Arwefjäll shot a 3-over 75 and finished with three birdies.
- Rebecca Gyllner finished 40th at 11-over and shot a 3-over 75 for her final round. She made two birdies on the day including one on her final hole.
- Louisa Carlbom shot a 4-over 76 on Wednesday and finished tied for 47th at 16-over. She ended her round with six consecutive pars.

San José State now heads to the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., for the NCAA Championships, May 19-24. The Spartans will be chasing their fourth national championship (1987, 1989, 1992) and their second consecutive match-play appearance.
