SAN DIEGO – Makenzie Hutchinson knocked in the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead No. 4 seed San José State (24-26, 11-11 MW) in a 1-0 win against No. 5 seed Fresno State (23-31, 10-12 MW) in the first game of the 2023 Mountain West Softball Championship tournament at SDSU Softball Stadium on Thursday morning.
- Jenessa Ullegue threw a gem going 7.0 IP while giving up no runs, only letting up three hits and striking out four
- For Ullegue, it's her eighth time pitching seven innings or more this season and her fourth 7.0 IP complete game shutout of the season
- Ullegue now has 377 career strikeouts which puts her fifth all-time in SJSU history
- Hutchinson also threw out her ninth runner trying to steal this season
- Ahmiya Noriega, Reina Zermeno, Ullegue, Jessica Giacoma and Karizma Bergesen all had hits for the Spartans
- Aubrie Thomas had a highlight catch in the top of the sixth inning to keep the game scoreless and scored the winning run as a pinch runner
