SAN DIEGOMakenzie Hutchinson knocked in the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead No. 4 seed San José State (24-26, 11-11 MW) in a 1-0 win against No. 5 seed Fresno State (23-31, 10-12 MW) in the first game of the 2023 Mountain West Softball Championship tournament at SDSU Softball Stadium on Thursday morning.

  • Jenessa Ullegue threw a gem going 7.0 IP while giving up no runs, only letting up three hits and striking out four
  • For Ullegue, it's her eighth time pitching seven innings or more this season and her fourth 7.0 IP complete game shutout of the season
  • Ullegue now has 377 career strikeouts which puts her fifth all-time in SJSU history
  • Hutchinson also threw out her ninth runner trying to steal this season
  • Ahmiya Noriega, Reina Zermeno, Ullegue, Jessica Giacoma and Karizma Bergesen all had hits for the Spartans
  • Aubrie Thomas had a highlight catch in the top of the sixth inning to keep the game scoreless and scored the winning run as a pinch runner
  • The Spartans have four true walk-off wins this season and have seven shutouts
