Ullegue Leads Spartans Past No. 1 Seed Boise State in MW Softball Championship Tournament

SAN DIEGOJenessa Ullegue hit a two-run home run, a two-run double and pitched four innings, plus got the saveto lead No. 4 seed San José State (25-26, 11-11 MW) in a 6-4 win over No. 1 seed Boise State (31-16, 16-5 MW) in the Spartans second game of the 2023 Mountain West Softball Championship tournament at SDSU Softball Stadium on Thursday. The Spartans are 2-0 in the double-elimination tournament and will play No. 2 seed SDSU at noon on Friday.
 
Alyssa Graham tied the game up in the seventh inning with an RBI single and then later in the inning Ullegue hit an RBI double down the left field line to give the Spartans the lead they wouldn't let go. Ullegue also came in to pitch again in the bottom of the seventh inning after starting the game to earn her first save of the season.

  • Ullegue has three home runs on the season and her four RBIs were a season best
  • Ullegue also went 3.0 IP while striking out four earlier in the game before she came back in to pitch in the seventh inning
  • Ullegue now has 382 career strikeouts which puts her fifth all-time in SJSU history and she is six strikeouts from tying Katelyn Linford for fourth on the all-time list
  • Lacie Ham went 3.0 IP while letting in one earned run
  • Makenzie Hutchinson went 1-for-3 with an RBI single
  • Alyssa Graham went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs
  • Ahmiya Noriega also had a hit and scored a run
  • Jessica Giacoma scored a run
  • Karizma Bergesen went 1-for-3 and is on a four game hitting streak
  • This was the Spartans first win over a top 55 RPI team this season
  • SJSU has won four of their last five overall
  • The Spartans defeated No. 5 Fresno State 1-0 on a walk-off win in the first game of the 2023 Mountain West Championship tournament on Thursday when Ullegue pitched a 7.0 IP shutout (story)
