Spartans Fall to No. 2 Seed SDSU in MW Championship Game

SAN DIEGOJessica Giacoma hit a singleto lead No. 4 seed San José State (26-28, 11-11 MW) in an 8-0 five innings loss to No. 2 seed SDSU (35-15, 16-6 MW) at SDSU Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the Mountain West Conference Softball Championship game.
 
The Spartans loaded the bases in the first inning with one out and didn't score while the Aztecs put up two in the bottom of the inning and took momentum from there.

  • SJSU ended the tournament going 3-2 with two wins against No. 1 seed Boise State and another against No. 5 seed Fresno State
  • Jenessa Ullegue came in relief and went 2.0 IP
  • Ullegue will end her career with 388 strikeouts tying Katelyn Linford for fourth on the SJSU all-time list
  • It was Ullegue's fifth game in a row to pitch which is the second time in her career she has done that
  • Ullegue batted .333 in the tourney with a home run, a double and tied a career-high with four RBIs while striking out 15 in 20.2 IP
  • Lacie Ham started the game and went 2.0 IP with two strikeouts
  • The Spartans left four on base
  • Ullegue, Aubrie Thomas and Makenzie Hutchinson were named to the MW All-Tournament team
  • The Spartans 26 total wins and 11 conference wins are both the most for SJSU since 2019
  • In the past year, both SJSU softball and baseball have made it to the MW Championship game
  • This was the first MW Softball Championship tournament since 2006
