MORGAN HILL, Calif. – Caleb Shetler completed his first round at the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional on Monday, shooting a 78 (+6) at The Institute Golf Club.
- The senior birdied the dogleg-right 10th hole, while adding 10 pars to his scorecard.
- He started his round with six pars on the first nine holes.
- Shetler is the first Spartan since Cody Blick in 2015 to qualify for an NCAA Regional.
Mississippi State leads the tournament after a team score of 276 (-12) in their first round, leading by five strokes.
- Florida State (-7), Pepperdine (-4), Charlotte and Baylor (-3) round out the top five following round one.
- Alfons Bondesson of Missouri sits atop the player leaderboard after an opening-round 67 (-5).
- Frederik Kjettrup (Florida State), Hunter Logan and Pedro Cruz Silva (Mississippi State) are tied for second at -4.
- Eagles: Logan, hole 10 (par 4); Charlie Crockett (Missouri), hole 9 (par 4); Kjettrup, hole 14 (par 5); Maximillian Steinlechner (NC State), hole 14 (par 5)
- Twenty-seven of the 75 players shot under par.
- This is the first major event at The Institute.
UP NEXT: Shetler and the rest of the field will continue the Morgan Hill Regional on Tuesday, with split tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. Shetler will tee off on hole 1 at 9:20 a.m.
