SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San José State baseball team will drive all over the Bay Area this weekend to complete its series against the San Diego State Aztecs. The action gets underway at 4:05 p.m. on Friday afternoon at Evans Diamond at Stu Gordon Stadium in Berkeley, Calif. with the continuation of a postponed game from March 10. The Spartans lead the Aztecs 2-0 after the third inning. Following the completion of the game, the two teams will play another game in Berkeley. On Saturday, the action gets moved to Klein Field at Sunken Diamond in Stanford, Calif. for a doubleheader beginning at 1:05 p.m On Sunday, the Spartans and Aztecs will wrap up the series with one game starting at 12:35 p.m. back in Berkeley.

PREVIOUS SERIES

  • The Spartans lost three games at Air Force from April 28-30.
  • Charles McAdoo was superb in the series, hitting 10-for-15 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Theo Hardy and Dalton Bowling each hit over .400.

WHERE THE SPARTANS RANK IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST 

  • The Spartans rank second in the Mountain West Conference in opposing batting average. Opponents are hitting only .271 against the Spartans.
  • Left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson (4.15 ERA) and right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark (5.43 ERA) rank sixth and 10th in ERA respectively. 
  • Clark is fifth in strikeouts with 57.
  • LHP Jack White is tied for first in wins with five.
  • RHP Darren Jansen is tied for sixth in saves with three.
  • Matt Spear ranks second in caught stealing with 18.
  • Four Spartans rank in the top 10 in doubles. Hunter Dorraugh is fourth with 16, Bowling is fifth with 15, McAdoo is tied for sixth with 14 and Jack Colette is 10th with 13. 
  • Bowling is tied for fourth in home runs with eight and is fifth in RBIs with 40.
  • McAdoo is seventh in batting average (.345) and Hardy is 10th (.342).
  • Jack Colette is tied for first in the conference in triples with five and Hardy is tied for second with four.
  • Colette and Jeriah Lewis are tied for third in stolen bases with nine each.
  • Dorraugh is fifth in walks with 27 while Hardy and Colette are seventh and eighth with 25 and 24 walks respectively. 
  • Dorraugh is 10th in slugging percentage at .558.
  • Dorraugh is tied for third in on-base percentage at .450. Hardy is seventh at .435 and McAdoo is ninth at .423.
  • Four Spartans have been named the Mountain West Player of the Week in 2023: Jack Colette (April 10), Charles McAdoo (April 3), Robert Hamchuk (March 13) and Hunter Dorraugh (Feb. 20).

VS. SAN DIEGO STATE

  • The San Diego State Aztecs are 18-22 this season and 12-7 in the conference.
  • The Aztecs are coming off a series win over UNLV, taking two out of three against the Rebels.
  • In 2022, the Spartans swept the Aztecs in two separate series, winning all six games against the Southern California school.
  • Clark tossed 10.1 innings against San Diego State in 2022 as the starting pitcher for two of the six games. He was dominant in both appearances, surrendering no runs on only six hits while striking out 12.
  • The Spartans hit at least one home run in all six games.
  • Dorraugh shined in the two series, going 9-for-20 at the plate with two home runs, a double and a triple.
