Spartans Finish Third Day of NCAA West First Round


SACRAMENTO, Calif.—
 Zaire Waring and Demaris Waters took on the hurdles events to lead San José State in the third day of the NCAA West First Round on Friday.

  • Waters finished 18th overall in the Men's 110m Hurdles quarterfinal with a time of 13.89 seconds after making it through the first round of the event on Wednesday with his mark of 13.88 seconds.
  • Waring finished 23rd overall in the Men's 400m Hurdles quarterfinal round with a time of 53.43 seconds. He made it out of the first round on Wednesday with a mark of 51.70 seconds, good for the sixth-fastest time in school history.
  • The men's portion of the NCAA West First Round has concluded, and Ajamu Reed will be traveling to the NCAA Championship in the Men's Long Jump after finishing in seventh place with a top mark of 7.68m (25'3.75").
  • Teammate Fabio Hessling will also travel to Austin, Texas to compete in the Men's Hammer Throw after finishing in 12th with his best throw of 67.99m (223'0").

UP NEXT: The NCAA West First Round will wrap up on Saturday, May 27 with the final leg of the women's events and will be the Spartans' last competition before NCAA Championships held June 8-11.
