CLOVIS, Calif.— 28 Spartans will travel to Central California to represent San José State at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships held May 11-14.

  • Emilia Sjostrand set the school record for both the Women's Long Jump with a mark of 6.35m (20'10") and the Women's Triple Jump with a distance of 13.92m (45'8") in the 2023 outdoor season alone. Her Triple Jump mark is also good for ninth in the world this season. She won both events at the MW Indoor Championships in addition to being named Women's Outstanding Performer of the Meet and earning an All-MW selection.
  • Demaris Waters is currently sixth on the all-time records list and leads the team in the Men's 110m Hurdles event with a mark of 13.85 seconds, which he set at the Fresno State Invitational this season. The mark is also the best Men's U20 110m Hurdles time in the world for the 2023 season. He won the 60m Hurdle Event and set a Mountain West record at the MW Indoor Championships after notably shaving his head before the final race, and earned an All-MW selection for his performance.
  • Jeremiah Walker leads the team in both the Men's 100m and 200m events with times of 10.45 and 20.65 seconds respectively. He is currently tied for the ninth-best all-time record with SJSU legend Tommie Smith in the Men's 100m Dash at 10.45 seconds and fourth all-time in the Men's 200m Dash behind legends Smith, John Carlos and Lee Evans.
  • Lina Schubert recorded the second-best Women's High Jump mark in school history by jumping 1.73m (5'8) at the Cardinal Classic this season. Schubert finished third in the event at the MW Indoor Championships by jumping 1.73m (5'8") and garnered an All-MW selection for her efforts.
  • Ajamu Reed won the Men's Long Jump event at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a mark of 7.93m (26'0.25") on his way to the third-best record and fourth-best performance in school history. The mark is also tied for fifth-best in the world in the Men's U20 category.
  • Sharli'e McCuller leads the team in the Women's 100m Dash with her time of 11.60 seconds and the Women's 200m Dash with a mark of 23.45 seconds. She's won MW Women's Freshman of the Week twice this year and currently holds the second-best 100m and 200m Dash times in school history.
  • Christopher Coats holds the best time for the Men's 400m this season after finishing in 46.67 seconds at the Mt. Sac Relays. The mark is good for tenth-best all-time in school history. Coats took home a MW title in the Men's 400m Dash at the MW Indoor Championships with a mark of 46.27 seconds, breaking SJSU legend Tommie Smith's school record of 46.44 which was set in 1964. He earned an All-MW selection for the performance.
  • Osayi Omorodion holds the third-best mark in school history for the Women's 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.62 seconds, which she set at the Fresno State Invitational while finishing in second place.
  • Fabio Hessling won the Men's Hammer Throw at the Cal Opener, Stanford Invitational and Fresno State Invitational and currently holds the fourth-best record in school history with a mark of 65.32m (214'4").
  • Bryson Smith took first place in the Men's Hammer Throw at the Payton Jordan Invitational by setting the third-best record in school history with a distance of 65.58m (215'2"). He earned an All-MW selection at the MW Indoor Championship in the Men's Weight Throw after finishing second in the overall competition and recording the third, fourth and fifth best distances in school history, going for 19.08m (62'7"), 18.26m (59'11") and 18.25m (59'10") respectively.
