SAN JOSE, Calif. –Jenessa Ullegue struck out six and Makenzie Hutchinson hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to lead San José State (22-25, 10-10 MW) in a 2-0 win against Utah State (17-25, 8-12 MW) in the first of a three-game series at Spartan Softball Stadium this weekend.
- Ullegue threw her third 7.0 IP shutout of the season and it was also Ullegue's sixth time throwing 7.0 IP or more this season
- Ullegue only threw one walk in the win
- Ullegue has 370 career strikeouts and is six behind Corina Lilly for fifth in SJSU history
- Ullegue has gone over 100 strikeouts in a season for the third time in her career
- Hutchinson went 1-for-2 with her sixth double of the season
- Ahmiya Noriega had the other hit for the Spartans and walked twice
- Aubrie Thomas and Adrianna Noriega each scored runs
- The Spartans earned eight walks
- Alyssa Graham walked three times
- The Aggies left eight on base
- The Spartans have six shutouts this season
- If the Spartans win one more game in the three-game series, they'll clinch a spot in the 2023 Mountain West Softball Championship tournament
- The start of game was delayed 1:29 due to rain
