Spartans Fall in First Game Friday, Second Game Postponed Due To Rain

BERKELEY, Calif.—
Left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson and right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark did not allow any earned runs as they led the San José State baseball team (20-21, 13-10 Mountain West) in a 5-3 loss to San Diego State (19-22, 13-7 Mountain West) on Friday night at Evans Diamond at Stu Gordon Stadium. Although originally scheduled to play two games, the second game of the night was postponed due to rain.

  • The action started in the top of the fourth inning as the two teams picked up from where they left off on March 10 in San Diego before the game was postponed. 
  • The Spartans began the day Friday with a 2-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly by Charles McAdoo and a Hunter Dorraugh RBI single in the first inning.
  • Thompson was superb in his 3.0 winnings of work in San Diego, retiring all nine batters he faced.
  • Clark took the ball on Friday in Berkeley and tossed 5.0 innings, allowing only three hits while giving up five unearned runs.
  • Robert Hamchuk led the Spartans offensively with two hits.

UP NEXT: The Spartans and Aztecs will play two games on Saturday, May 6 at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond in Stanford, Calif. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m They will also play two games on Sunday in Berkeley as a result of the postponed game.
