Spartans Add Eight In Spring Signing Period

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football added Tangata Tuitupou, Laakea Kapoi, Gafa Faga, Kaleb Peleki, Mata Hola, Charlie Leota, Taniela Latu and Quincy Likio to the 2023 signing class for this upcoming season.

Tangata Tuitupou, DL, Junior, Los Banos, Calif./Pacheco HS/Merced College

  • Played 19 games over two seasons at Merced College
  • Had 53 tackles with 23 being solo
  • Had 4.5 sacks including three his final season
  • Ended his career at Merced College with 12 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries
  • Named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State

Laakea Kapoi, OL, Redshirt Freshman, Honolulu, Hawaii/Saint Louis HS/San Diego State

  • Redshirted his freshman year at San Diego State
  • Played three years at Saint Louis High School
  • All-State First Team (2021)
  • Honorable Mention All-Lague selection (2019)
  • Competed on the track and field team in the shot put and discus
  • Member of the Crusader Council from 2021-22 (leadership)
  • Won the state championship in 2018, 19 and 20
  • Went to same high school as Chevan Cordeiro
  • Played with Quincy Likio
  • Consensus three-star recruit by 247sports, Rivals and ESPN

Gafa Faga, DL, Sophomore, Alao, American Samoa/Fagaitua HS/New Mexico Military Institute

  • Had 10 tackles in five games played at New Mexico Military Institute
  • Had two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss

Kaleb Peleki, DL, Redshirt Freshman, Vallejo, Calif./Bethel HS/Missouri State

  • Played in one game and had a tackle a two-yard tackle for loss against Western Illinois (10/29) while at Missouri State
  • Had 1.0 tackles for loss on the season
  • Dressed for seven games
  • Played for veteran head coach Bobby Petrino

Mata Hola, DL, Reshirt Sophomore, Sandy, Utah/Alta HS/Snow College

  • Played in seven games at Snow College
  • Had 18 tackles inlcuding 10 solo
  • Broke up one pass

Charlie Leota, DL, Junior, Aukland, N.Z./Mt. Albert Grammar School/New Mexico Military Institute

  • Played in 22 games over three season at New Mexico Military Institute
  • Had 53 total tackles including 37 last season alone
  • Had three sacks last season and 4.5 over the three seasons
  • Had 11 tackles for loss with 5.5 coming last year
  • NJCAA Division 1 National Champions (2021)
  • SWJCFC Conference Champions (2021)
  • SWJCFC All-Conference Honorable Mention (2021, 22)

Taniela Latu, LB, Junior, San Mateo, Calif./Junipero Serra HS/College of San Mateo

  • Was All-Conference twice and All-State in 2022
  • Played outside linebacker both seasons
  • Part of state championship team
  • Played two seasons at College of San Mateo
  • Ended his time there with 69 tackles with 37 being solo
  • He had 12 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss
  • Also had one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception, plus five pass deflections
  • Was on the Deans List for all four semesters

Quincy Likio, DL, Junior, Kapahulu, Hawaii/Saint Louis HS/College of San Mateo

  • Won CCCAA Championship (2022) at the College of San Mateo
  • Played in eight games and had 19 tackles in 2022
  • Also had one sack and four tackles for loss in 2022
  • Had a forced fumble and fumble recovery against Sierra (9/3/22)
  • Career-best five tackles against Modesto (11/26/22)
