Stiles, Firdaus and Murata Named GCAA All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – Kristopher Stiles, Zubair Firdaus and Kotaro Murata were each named Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholars, the organization announced, while the San José State men's golf team was also earned the GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically, must participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Kristopher Stiles, Sr., Palmdale, Calif.

  • Named to the inaugural Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA) All-America team (2021-22)
  • Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Athlete (2021-22)
  • Earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Recognition (2021-22)
  • Three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection (2020-21, '21-22, '22-23)
  • Two-time Mountain West Scholar Athlete (2020-21, '21-22)
  • Won 2022 Sammy Award for Academic Rising Star
  • Won the 2023 Audie Murphy Leadership Award at the Sammys

Zubair Firdaus, Jr., Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

  • Academic All-Mountain West
  • Played 29 rounds in 10 tournaments
  • Finished with the second-best scoring average on the team at 72.79
  • Best finish was a tie for eighth at the Bandon Dunes Invitational with a one-over par 145 (73-72)
  • Lowest round was a 66 in the first round of the Mountain West Championship

Kotaro Murata, Sr., Matsuyama, Japan

  • Mountain West Scholar-Athlete
  • Academic All-Mountain West
  • Played 29 rounds in 10 tournaments
  • Fourth on the team with seven rounds at par or better
  • Best finish was a tie for 13th at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite with a two-under par 214 (72-71-71)
  • Lowest round was a two-under par 70 in the first round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invite
