BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Joel Garcia scored in the 84th minute to lead the San José State men's soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0-0 WAC) in a 1-1 tie at CSU Bakersfield (0-0-1, 0-0-0 Big West) in the Spartans' season opener on Thursday night.
- The Spartans' leader in assists in 2022, Angel Iniguez, set up Garcia on the goal.
- Garcia and Beau Leroux each led the Spartans with three shots.
- David Sweeney made five saves.
- Leroux, Kasper Poulsgaard and Josh Redfield played all 90 minutes.
- Riccardo Scarafia and Ruben Flores-Thomas each came on as substitutes and produced a shot on goal.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will head to San Diego for a showdown against UC San Diego on Saturday, Aug. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
