BOX SCORE (PDF) | HIGHLIGHTS

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Josh Lucas scored his first career goal to lead the San José State men's soccer team (4-3-3, 1-0-0 WAC) in a 1-0 win over Air Force (0-9-1, 0-1-0 WAC) in the Spartans' first conference match of the season. Goalkeeper David Sweeney earned the 18th shutout of his career, tying the all-time record for most career clean sheets by a Spartan goalkeeper.

  • The Spartans defense was superb as Sweeney only had to make one save.
  • Joel Garcia Jr. assisted Lucas on the Spartans' goal.
  • The Spartans outshot the Falcons, 10-9, and bested them in shots on goal, 3-1.
  • Garcia Jr., Gaku Nishimura and Josh Redfield each played all 90 minutes.
  • Sweeney now sits in a three-way tie for most career shutouts with former Spartan goalkeepers Chris Humphreys (1997-2000) and Gary St. Clair (1970-74).
