MEDINAH, Ill.—Spartans at the top of the leaderboard are a great sight as women’s golfer Darae Chung is tied for first after two rounds of the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah on Monday. San José State is tied for fifth place at 2-under 574.
- Chung, who was tied for fifth after the first round, shot a 3-under 69 in the second round to finish the day at 5-under 139.
- She is tied with three others at 5-under par including the world’s top-ranking amateur Ingrid Lindblad from LSU.
- Chung shot her third round in the 60s this season with her 69 in round two. Ironically, all three scores in the 60s came in the second round of the tournaments played so far.
- Chung also recorded her second eagle of the season. She made this on her second hole of the second round, making a “3” on the par-5, 492-yard hole #4.
- Lucia Lopez Ortega and Rebecca Gyllner are tied for 30th at 1-over 145.
- Moa Andersson is tied for 47th at 4-over 148. She made 13 pars in the second round.
- Kajsa Arwefjäll is tied for 51st at 5-over 149. She finished the day shooting an even-par 72 in the second round with four birdies and 11 pars made.
- Tessa Kremser, playing as an individual, ended the day tied for eighth at 3-under 141.
- Kremser was tied for first after the first round when she shot a 5-under 67.
- She made her first collegiate eagle in the first round with a “3” on the par-5, 519-yard 16th hole.
- Kremser finished the day with eight birdies.
Final round action begins on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The Spartans will start on holes 4-7, with Ole Miss and SMU.
