PALO ALTO, Calif. – Duru Durgun and Cheuk Ying Shek shined for San José State on Friday when they both advanced to the round of 32 at the ITA Regionals, hosted by Stanford.
- Shek was able to knock off Gonzaga's Ella Nielsen in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) in the first round before taking out the No. 9 seed Klara Kosan from the University of the Pacific in a three-set thriller 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to move into the round of 32.
- Durgun also won her first two matches to move into the round of 32, taking out Saint Mary's Olivia Rook 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, followed by a three-set win over Pacific's Indiya McLeod 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
- In doubles, Shek and Rozalina Youseva both earned their way into the round of 32 after taking out Nielsen and Rose Hays from Gonzaga 8-4.
UP NEXT: Play will continue on Saturday with singles starting at 8 a.m. and doubles starting at 9 a.m.
