Spartans Gear Up For South Bay Showdown Against Santa Clara

  • The Spartans are coming off their first home loss of the season, an 86-75 defeat to Montana on Sunday afternoon.
  • Six Spartans scored in double figures in the game including Myron (MJ) Amey Jr., Tibet Görener, Latrell Davis, Alvaro Cardenas, William Humer and Diogo (DJ) Seixas.
  • Görener made three 3-pointers and moved into fourth all-time for most career 3-pointers made by a Spartan. With 135 career made threes, he is only three away from tying Adrian Oliver (2009-11) for third.
  • Cardenas has registered double-doubles in two of the three most recent games, tallying 22 points and 10 rebounds at North Dakota State on Dec. 4 and 16 points and 10 assists versus New Orleans on Dec. 9.
  • Cardenas has dished out 265 assists in his two-plus years at San José State. The junior guard is one assist away from tying D.J. Brown (2012-14) and Ricky Berry (1986-88) for ninth for most assists in SJSU history.
  • Trey Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more three-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 42.1 percent, connecting on 106 of 252 attempts. 
  • The Spartans lead the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 8.83.
  • The Spartans have started the 2023-24 season by scoring 40 or more points in 10 of the 24 halves. The second half of the most recent game against Montana was the first time since Dec. 4 in which they did not produce 40 or more points in a half.
  • The Spartans are 4-1 inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center in 2023-24.

VS. SANTA CLARA

  • The Santa Clara Broncos are 8-4 this season and are coming off a 69-61 win over Washington State on Saturday.
  • The Broncos are 0-2 against the Mountain West this season with losses to New Mexico and Utah State.
  • The Spartans are 32-82 all-time against the Broncos.
  • In the 2022-23 season, the Spartans defeated the Broncos in Santa Clara, 75-64.
