SAN JOSE, Calif. - Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. scored 17 points and Alvaro Cardenas recorded a double-double to lead the San José State men's basketball team (7-6, 0-0 MW) in an 81-78 win over Santa Clara (8-5, 0-0 WCC) on Wednesday night.
- In addition to his 17 points, Amey Jr. filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block.
- Cardenas registered 14 points and 10 assists for his third double-double in his last four games.
- Latrell Davis tallied 12 points and a career-high seven rebounds.
- Tibet Görener also produced 12 points, shooting an efficient 50 percent from the field.
- Adrame Diongue marked his return to action with a career-high 10 points.
- William Humer was a game-high +17.
- The Spartans had five double-figure scorers in a game for the third time this season.
- As a team, the Spartans shot 50 percent overall.
- The Spartans went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute with Amey Jr. and Cardenas combining to go 4-for-4.
- For the game, the Spartans were exceptional from the free-throw line, connecting on 16 of 19 attempts (84.2 percent).
- The four steals for Amey Jr. matched his career high which he set against Air Force on March 1, 2022.
UP NEXT: With the win, the Spartans will take a 7-6 record into conference play which begins on Jan. 2, 2023 at Wyoming.
