Five Spartans Finish as MW Champions after Day Three

MEET RESULTS | HIGHLIGHTS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—
Emilia Sjostrand, Demaris Waters, Alyssa Bean, Roman Johnson, Christopher Coats and Cameron Tarver led San José State in the final day of the MW Indoor Championship that saw five Spartans end their indoor seasons as MW champions. Both the men's and women's teams finished the competition in fourth place in the overall standings.

Women's

  • Sjostrand took the MW Women's Triple Jump title after submitting a school and MW record-setting distance of 13.71m (44'11.75"). She also jumped a second-best all-time mark of 13.64m (44'9") in the same day, and the title is Sjostrand's second of the weekend
  • Sjostrand was also named Women's Performer of the Meet for winning two titles in as many days. She won the Women's Long Jump with a mark of 6.48m (21'3.25")
  • Bean set two school records in the final day on her way to two third place finishes in the Women's 200m Dash and 400m Dash. Her record-setting marks of 23.67 seconds and 53.41 respectively break her own records in both races that she set in Day Two of the MW Indoor Championship
  • Victoria Agyin took third place to share the podium with Sjostrand in the Women's Triple Jump with a distance of 12.67m (41'7")
  • Sarah Mosteller a fourth-best time in school history in the Women's 400m Dash with a mark of 55.48

Men's

  • Waters won the Men's 60m Hurdles with a mark of 7.72 seconds, good for a new MW record and school track record over the previous mark of 7.74 set by Dedy Cooper in 1977. Waters made an unusual decision before racing in the final after he qualified by placing second in his preliminary heat with a mark of 7.89 seconds, shaving his head completely and improving by .17 seconds in the final race
  • Coats took home a MW title in the Men's 400m Dash with a mark of 46.27 seconds, breaking SJSU legend Tommie Smith's school record of 46.44 which was set in 1964
  • Roman Johnson won a MW title in his last race as a Spartan, submitting a time of 6.74 seconds in the Men's 60m Dash
  • Cameron Tarver secured a MW title in the Men's 200m Dash with a school record-setting time of 20.87. He broke the record he set of 20.91 seconds in Day Two of the MW Indoor Championships
  • Coats also took third place in the Men's 200m Dash after posting a mark of 21.07 to share the podium with Tarver
