Spartans Compete at Sacramento State Sunday

The San José State women’s gymnastics team travels to the state capitol on Sunday to face Sacramento State in a non-conference meet at The Nest beginning at 2 p.m.

  • This is the first of two meetings between the two teams this month. The schools will match up on Sunday, January 28, inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
  • The Spartans enter the meet ranked 24th in the country after scoring a 194.950 at the Mean Girls Super 16 Gymnastics Championship last weekend.
  • The team had the top team score in the Mountain West last week, as well as the vault (48.925), bars (48.75) and beam (48.650).
  • Lauren Macpherson had the best all-around score in the MW at 38.850, garnering her MW Gymnast of the Week honors.
  • Freshman Marissa Ashton is tied for the second-best beam score in the conference at 9.825 and was named the MW Freshman of the Week.
  • Madison Kirsch, the MW Vault Specialist of the Week, has the top vault score at 9.850.
  • Jada Mazury, the MW Co-Bars Specialist of the Week, tied for the highest score of the week with a 9.875 on bars.
  • The Spartans have been successful in Sacramento the past couple of meets. Last year, the team tied the team score school record with a 196.625.
  • SJSU set the team record with a 49.325 last February 17.
  • Jaudai Lopes set the vault record during that meet with a 9.950, while Lauren Macpherson tied the beam record at 9.950 in a quad meet on March 2.

UP NEXT – The Spartans compete in the first MW meet in school history as the team travels to Boise State for a quad meet with the Broncos, Air Force and West Chester on Friday, January 19, beginning at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT.
