SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's basketball team (8-10, 1-4 MW) will welcome the No. 25 New Mexico Lobos (16-3, 4-2 MW) to the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Wednesday, Jan. 24. A BREAK AFTER A BUZZER-BEATING LOSS

  • The Spartans had the weekend off after a loss to Fresno State on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
  • The Spartans fell at the buzzer despite a career-high 32 points from Tibet Görener.
  • Görener made a career-best seven 3-pointers, connecting on seven of nine attempts from beyond the arc. 
  • Trey Anderson was a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range, knocking down a career-high five 3-pointers for the third time in his career.

SEASON SUMMARY

  • Four of the five conference games for SJSU have been decided by three points or fewer. They lost at Wyoming on a buzzer beater, fell by only three to No. 19 San Diego State, won at the buzzer at Air Force and lost on a last-second shot at Fresno State. The Spartans have yet to play a conference game where the winning team won by more than 10 points.
  • The Spartans have led for 119 out of the total 200 minutes during Mountain West conference play and were up at halftime in four of the five games. 
  • The Spartans lead the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 10.80.
  • Görener is third in the conference in 3-point percentage (Minimum 2.5 3FG/G average), shooting at a 39.7 percent clip. He is second in 3-pointers made per game at 2.56.
  • Adrame Diongue leads the conference in blocks per game at 1.71 as he has registered 29 blocks in 17 games. As of Jan. 21, his 1.71 average is tied for 61st in the country. In conference games, he has averaged a conference-best 2.60 per game.
  • Alvaro Cardenas ranks 24th and 17th in Division I in assists per game (5.9) and assist/turnover ratio (3.42). In the conference, he is fifth and second in the two categories.

RECORD WATCH

  • Görener is only seven 3-pointers away from tying Ryan Welage (2015-18) for the most made 3-pointers in SJSU history. Görener has knocked down 154 3-pointers in his SJSU career while Welage finished with 161.
  • Görener is second in 3-pointers attempted with 450; Tim Pierce (2007-09) is first in attempts with 471.
  • Cardenas ranks seventh all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 307. Marmet Williams (1994-98) is sixth with 318.
  • Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 41.7 percent, connecting on 113 of 271 attempts. 

VS. NEW MEXICO 

  • The newly ranked Lobos have won three games in a row with victories over San Diego State, Utah State and Air Force.
  • The Spartans are 5-20 all-time against the Lobos.
  • The Spartans are 4-6 against the Lobos in the last 10 meetings.
