Spartans Play at No. 17 Utah State Tuesday Night

LOGAN, Utah - The San José State men's basketball team (8-12, 1-6 MW) will battle the No. 17 Utah State Aggies (18-2, 6-1 MW) inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT on the Mountain West Network and KTRB 860 AM


  • Tibet Görener is currently second in San José State history for most career 3-pointers with 159. Görener is only two 3-point makes away from tying the all-time leader, Ryan Welage (2015-18).


  • Myron (MJ) Amey Jr., Alvaro Cardenas, Görener and Trey Anderson all scored in double figures in a 77-65 loss to UNLV on Saturday night.
  • The Spartans connected on just under half of their field-goal attempts, shooting 49.1 percent for the game.
  • Cardenas dished out a game-high six assists and Amey Jr. led the Spartans with five rebounds.


  • The Spartans have outscored their opponents this season, 1496-1482.
  • The Spartans lead the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 9.35.
  • Four of the seven conference games for SJSU have been decided by three points or fewer. They lost at Wyoming on a buzzer beater, fell by only three to No. 19 San Diego State, won at the buzzer at Air Force and lost on a last-second shot at Fresno State. 
  • Cardenas, the Spartans' point guard, ranks 18th and 14th in Division I in assists per game (6.1) and assist/turnover ratio (3.30). In the conference, he is fifth and second in the two categories.
  • Görener is third in the conference in 3-point percentage (minimum 2.5 3FG/G average), shooting at a 39.2 percent clip. He is third in 3-pointers made per game at 2.55.
  • The Spartans' center, Adrame Diongue, has averaged a conference-best 2.57 blocks per game in conference contests.


  • Görener is second in SJSU history in 3-pointers attempted with 464. Tim Pierce (2007-09) is first in attempts with 471.
  • Cardenas ranks sixth all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 323. Omari Moore (2020-23) is fifth with 429.
  • Trey Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 41.8 percent, connecting on 117 of 280 attempts. 


  • The Aggies are coming off a 90-84 overtime win over Boise State on Saturday.
  • The Aggies' only conference loss of the season came against New Mexico on Jan. 16.
  • The Spartans are 23-69 all-time against the Aggies, however the Spartans won the most recent meeting in 2023.
  • On Feb. 11, 2023, the Spartans defeated the Aggies 69-64 at the Provident Credit Union Event Center behind 27 points by Omari Moore. The Spartan defense held Utah State without a made basket for the final 3:04 of the game.
