COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San José State women's tennis players, Carolina Millan and Cheuk Ying Shek, received recognition from the Mountain West Conference on Wednesday afternoon. Millan was named the Player of the Week and Ying Shek was honored as the Freshman of the Week. The announcement came on the heels of a successful opening week for the Spartans as they went 2-0 with a 6-1 drubbing of UC Riverside and a 5-2 victory over Sacramento State.
- Posted a 4-0 combined record in singles and doubles
- Won both of her singles matches in the No. 1 flight, including a win in straight sets at UC Riverside to open the season
- Paired with Jovana Babic in the No. 2 doubles flight for both of her doubles wins
- This is her fourth Mountain West Player of the Week honor but first at San José State as the previous three were while she was at Utah State
- Tallied a 3-1 record for the week
- Logged two No. 1 doubles wins with her partner Irena Muradyan
- Won her first career dual match in singles with a straight-set victory in the No. 2 flight at UC Riverside
UP NEXT: Millan, Ying Shek and the rest of the Spartans will return to action on Friday, Feb. 9 at the Spartan Tennis Complex against Cal Poly. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
