Spartans Battle Boise State on FS1 Friday Night

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's basketball (7-6, 0-1 MW) will host the Boise State Broncos (9-4, 0-0 MW) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. DOWN TO THE WIRE AT WYOMING

  • The Spartans are coming off a nail-biting 75-73 defeat at Wyoming to open Mountain West conference play.
  • Alvaro Cardenas led the Spartans with a near double-double performance of 21 points and nine rebounds. The junior guard shot 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-5 from 3-point range.
  • Tibet Görener was the second-leading scorer for the Spartans as he poured in 16 points, nine of which came via three 3-pointers.
  • Adrame Diongue recorded a career-high four blocks.

SEASON SUMMARY

  • Cardenas has registered double-doubles in three of the previous five games, tallying 22 points and 10 rebounds at North Dakota State, 16 points and 10 assists against New Orleans, and 14 points and 10 assists versus Santa Clara.
  • Cardenas ranks 30th and 33rd in the country in assists per game (5.7 apg) and assist/turnover ratio (3.00) and is fifth and second in the Mountain West Conference in the two categories.
  • Diongue has produced at least one block in 12 straight games and is second in the conference in blocks per game, averaging 1.54.
  • The Spartans lead the the conference in 3-pointers made per game at 9.07.

  • Görener has made the third-most 3-pointers in SJSU history with 140 and is 13 away from tying Tim Pierce for second. 
  • Görener sits in second in SJSU history in 3-pointers attempted with 421; Pierce is first with 471. 
  • Trey Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and average one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 42.1 percent, connecting on 107 of 255 attempts. 
  • Cardenas has dished out the seventh-most assists in SJSU history with 279; Marmet Williams (1994-98) is sixth with 318.

VS. BOISE STATE

  • Friday's contest will be the first conference game of the season for the Boise State Broncos who finished the non-conference slate with a record of 9-4.
  • The Broncos are coming off an 85-63 win over Utah Valley on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023.
  • The Spartans have a 4-38 all-time record against the Broncos but won the most recent meeting, a 74-68 victory in overtime on Feb. 25, 2023.
  • Garrett Anderson scored a career-high 13 points in the contest.
