Spartans Host No. 19 San Diego State Tuesday on CBS Sports Network

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's basketball team (7-8, 0-2 MW) will take on the No. 19 San Diego State Aztecs (13-2, 2-0 MW) at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. AMEY JR. DOMINATES IN SPARTANS' LOSS VERSUS BOISE STATE 

  • Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. scored 30 points to lead the Spartans in a 78-69 loss to Boise State on Friday night.
  • Amey Jr. registered 25 of his 30 points in the opening half.
  • The junior guard matched his career high of five 3-pointers and was efficient as he shot 11-for-18 from the field and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc.
  • The Spartans held the lead for 30:53 of the 40 minutes.
  • Adrame Diongue recorded a career-high four blocks for the second straight game.

SEASON SUMMARY

  • Alvaro Cardenas has registered double-doubles in three of the previous six games, tallying 22 points and 10 rebounds at North Dakota State, 16 points and 10 assists against New Orleans, and 14 points and 10 assists versus Santa Clara.
  • Cardenas ranks 27th and 20th in NCAA Division I in assists per game (5.7) and assist/turnover ratio (3.27). In the conference, he is fifth and second in the two categories.
  • Diongue has recorded at least one block in 13 straight games. He has played in 14 of the 15 games this season and the only one of the 13 in which he did not register a block was the season opener against UC Irvine.
  • Diongue is second in the conference in blocks per game at 1.71, behind only UNLV’s Kalib Boone who averages 1.75. Diongue has registered 24 blocks in 14 games. His 1.71 average is the 59th-best in the country.
  • The Spartans lead the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 8.93.

CLIMBING UP THE RECORD BOOKS

  • Tibet Görener is third all-time for most 3-pointers made at SJSU with 141. Görener is 12 away from tying Tim Pierce (2007-09) for second.
  • Görener sits in second in 3-pointers attempted in SJSU history with 427; Pierce is first in attempts with 471.
  • Trey Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 41 percent, connecting on 107 of 262 attempts. 
  • Cardenas ranks seventh all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 286. Marmet Williams (1994-98) is sixth with 318.

VS. NO. 19 SAN DIEGO STATE

  • The San Diego State Aztecs are ranked 19th in the country in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches' Polls.
  • The runners-up in last year's Division I men's basketball championship game, the Aztecs have played to a 13-2 overall record this season.
  • The Spartans are 35-47 all-time against the Aztecs.
  • Their last win over their longtime rivals occured in the 2016-17 season, a 76-71 victory inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Feb. 7, 2017.
  • The Aztecs earned a 64-49 victory in their most recent meeting, in the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament of the 2022-23 season.
  • Görener led the Spartans with 15 points in the loss.
