DAVIS, Calif. – Shay McDowell hit two RBI singles including one with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead San José State (1-4, 0-0 MW) softball in a 3-2 walk-off win over Middle Tennessee State (0-5, 0-0 CUSA) from La Rue Field at UC Davis Sunday in the final day of the NorCal Kickoff.
Ahmiya Noriega pinch hit and got on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and eventually scored the game-winning run. Carly Cummings had an RBI single in the second inning to give the Spartans an early 2-0 lead. Lacie Ham threw her 11th career complete game while letting up only two runs and striking out three in her first win of the season.
- McDowell initially gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single.
- McDowell went 2-for-4 in the game and had two RBIs.
- McDowell during the NorCal Kickoff hit .455 with five hits, two doubles, one home run, one run scored, three RBIs, 10 total bases and had a slugging pct. of .909.
- Reina Zermeno had a big sac bunt to push Noriega to third base in the seventh inning.
- Jules Ronquillo scored her first run of the season in the bottom of the first inning.
- Taylor Squires hit her first career triple in the second inning and scored a run.
- Cummings had her first career hit and RBI single knocking home Squires in the second inning.
- Korie Thomas hit her first extra base hit at SJSU with a double.
- SJSU caused MTSU to leave nine on base.
