Spartans Host The Silicon Valley Classic I

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State softball (1-4, 0-0 Mountain West) hosts the Silicon Valley Classic I tournament this weekend starting Friday to open their home slate from Spartan Softball Stadium and most of the games can be seen on the Mountain West Network and tickets can be found here.

SJSU SCHEDULE (Spartan Softball Stadium)

  • Friday at 1:30 p.m. vs. Seattle U (3-2, 0-0 WAC) (Mountain West Network)
  • Friday at 4:00 p.m. vs. Cal Poly (5-0, 0-0 Big West) (Mountain West Network)
  • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. vs. Fordham (2-3, 0-0 Atlantic 10) (Mountain West Network)
  • Saturday at 5:30 p.m. vs. Portland State (1-4, 0-0 Big Sky)
  • Sunday at 10:00 a.m. vs. Cal Poly (Mountain West Network)

NON-SJSU SCHEDULE (Spartan Softball Stadium)

  • Friday at 11:00 a.m. Cal Poly vs. Seattle U
  • Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Nevada (3-2, 0-0 Mountain West) vs. Fordham
  • Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Nevada vs. Portland State
  • Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Fordham vs. Portland State

NEWS AND NOTES

  • In 2023, the Spartans went to the Mountain West Championship game and had 27 total wins which included 11 conference wins which were the most for SJSU since 2019.
  • Also in 2023, the Spartans played in the NISC postseason tournament for the first time and the first postseason appearance for the Spartans since 2017.
  • The Spartans finished the first weekend second in the MW with five doubles and second in the MW with two triples.
  • Oregon State transfer Shay McDowell impressed during the NorCal Kickoff hitting .455 with five hits, two doubles, one home run, one run scored, three RBIs, 10 total bases and had a slugging pct. of .909. Her two doubles lead the Mountain West.
  • Reina Zermeno hit .308 with four hits, a double, an RBI and a run scored in the NorCal Kickoff. Zermeno is 19th in the MW in batting average.
  • Taylor Squires hit her first career triple in the win against Middle Tennessee State (2/11). Squires ended up scoring the second run of the game in the Spartans 3-2 win.
  • Lacie Ham struck out nine over her 12.2 IP of work in the NorCal Classic. Ham is eighth in the conference in strikeouts and earned her first win of the season against MTSU (2/11).
  • The Spartans go into the season with two sets of sisters. Adrianna and Ahmiya Noriega return after putting up big numbers in their first season together in 2023. Joining Aubrie Thomas this season is her sister Korie who is a graduate transfer from UCSB.
  • The Thomas' have longstanding ties with SJSU. Their father Shawn played defensive back for the Spartans football team and their mother Sarah was a catcher on the softball team.

  • The Spartans head to the Judi Garman Classic starting on March 1 against Long Beach State at 12:30 p.m. from Fullerton, Calif.
