SAN DIEGO – Ethan Ross tossed five strikeouts, but the San José State baseball team (0-1, 0-0 MW) dropped its opening-day matchup against UC San Diego (1-0, 0-0 Big West) 3-1 on Friday night.
- Ross struck out five batters in five innings pitched and allowed four hits in the start.
- Hunter Dorraugh had the lone hit for the Spartans.
- Jeriah Lewis scored the only run of the game for SJSU.
- Joey Cammarata pitched two innings of relief, striking out one batter.
- Cade Van Allen pitched one inning, striking out one and not surrendering a hit.
