SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ahmiya Noriega hit a two RBI triple and Ava Conti earned her first career victory to lead San José State (4-4, 0-0 MW) softball in a 5-4 win over Fordham (3-6, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in the Silicon Valley Classic I Saturday night for their fourth straight win.
The Spartans put all five of their runs across in the fourth inning against Fordham to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish as Conti struck out three in 2.0 IP and Alexis Toner came in to close it out for her first career save.
Game One vs. Fordham
- Shay McDowell got the scoring going in the fourth inning with an RBI single and went 1-for-3 in the game.
- Noriega went 2-for-3 with her second triple of the season and the two RBIs were also her first for the season.
- Makayla Freshour hit her first career extra base hit with a double and also knocked in her first career run.
- Freshour also scored her first career run.
- Carly Cummings hit her second RBI single of the season.
- Lacie Ham went 3.2 IP with five strikeouts.
- The Spartans scored a season-high five runs in their fourth win in a row.
- Seven Spartans had a hit.
- Fordham left 11 on base.
- The game was delayed twice due to rain. The first delay lasted one hour and 11 minutes and the second delay lasted six minutes.
Game Two vs. Portland State
- The game was postponed until 9:00 a.m. on Sunday from Spartan Softball Stadium. The Spartans scheduled game on Sunday against Cal Poly has been postponed to a later date.
