Spartans Battle Broncos Tuesday on FS1

BOISE, Idaho - The San José State men's basketball team (9-17, 2-11 Mountain West) will face the Boise State Broncos (17-8, 8-4 Mountain West) on Tuesday, Feb. 20 inside ExtraMile Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. MT/7:30 p.m PT on FS1 and KTRB 860 AM.

  • The Spartans are coming off a two-game homestand which included a 73-66 win over Air Force and an 80-75 loss to Wyoming.
  • Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. scored 44 points across the two games, producing 25 against Air Force and 19 versus Wyoming.
  • Over the two games, the Spartans outscored their opponents in the paint, 80-52.
  • Latrell Davis registered a career-high 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting against Wyoming, besting his previous career high of 16 points which he set against Bethesda on Nov. 9, 2023.

  • Tibet Görener is the all-time leader in San José State history in 3-pointers made with 163.
  • Cardenas and Trey Anderson are also in the top 10 in 3-pointers. Cardenas is tied for seventh with 123 and T. Anderson is tied for eighth with 122.
  • T. Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 41.4 percent, connecting on 122 of 296 attempts.
  • Cardenas ranks sixth all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 340.

SEASON NOTABLES

  • SJSU is 5-0 in games in which they shot over 50 percent this season. The five opponents against whom they have shot over 50 percent are Bethesda, Norfolk State, New Orleans, Santa Clara and Air Force.
  • The Spartans are second in the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 8.58, behind only Air Force.
  • Cardenas ranks 28th and 30th in Division I in assists per game (5.6) and assist/turnover ratio (2.84). In the conference, he is sixth and fourth in the two categories.
  • Adrame Diongue is third in the conference in blocks per game at 1.52.

VS. BOISE STATE

  • The Boise State Broncos are 17-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
  • The Broncos are 2-2 in the month of February with wins over Air Force and Fresno State and losses to Colorado State and Utah State.
  • The Spartans are 4-39 all-time against the Broncos including a 78-69 defeat inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Jan. 5, 2024.
  • Amey Jr. led the Spartans with 30 points in the game, 25 of which he scored in the first half.
