Spartans Head to Houston for Mountain West Swim & Dive Championships

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State women's swimming and diving team will head to Houston for the Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships from Wednesday, Feb. 21 to Saturday, Feb. 24 at the CRWC Natatorium. 

  • The Spartans are one of nine teams competing at the championships.
  • The competition starts Wednesday with the 200-medley relay, One-meter Springboard competition and 800-freestyle relay.
  • Jenna Jagielski finished eighth in the 3-meter springboard at last year's championships and was the first program finalist in six years. She also finished sixth in the platform diving.
  • Zsofia Musnay played fourth in the 200-butterfly and eighth in the 100-butterfly at the 2023 championships.
  • She and Reka Kovacs finished second and third in the 200 butterfly at the 2022 MW Championships.
  • Last meet - SJSU beat Fresno State for the first time since 2014 with a final score of 117-86. 
  • Jenna Jagielski, Reka Kovacs, and Vilma Lindberg all received Mountain West weekly honors after their performance in the win against Fresno State. 
  • Kovacs broke the pool record in the 500-yard freestyle by nearly three seconds, beating the previous record of 4:59.05 that was swam by Stanford's Morgan Tankersley in 2022.
  • Lindberg recorded the fourth-fastest 200-yard breaststroke in SJSU history with a time of 2:13.59. 
  • The Spartans beat Nevada at home on September 30th with a final score of 61-48. 
  • Ela Freiman broke a school record and placed third in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:19.07 at the Mizzou Invite.
  • The relay team of Dalton SickonQuincy KeyLais e Silva, and Reagan Mathieson recorded the 10th-fastest SJSU 200-yard freestyle relay to place fifth with a time of 1:32.26 at the Mizzou Invite.
  • Against Nevada, the 800-yard relay team of Amelia SnyderReka Kovacs, Zsofia Musnay, and Freiman took first place with a time of 7:44.59. 
  • During the 400-yard medley relay, Freiman recorded a personal best in her 100-yard freestyle split with a time of 52.57. 
  • E Silva recorded the fifth-fastest 50-yard backstroke in SJSU history with a time of 25.41 during her split of the 3 x 50-yard backstroke relay
  • The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Mya Azzopardi, e Silva, Kovik, and Sickon finished first with a time of 1:36.51. 
  • The 800-yard relay team of Kovacs, Amelia SnyderEla Freiman, and Mathieson placed fifth with a time of 7:35.43 at the Fresno State Invitational. 
  • Kovacs took fourth place in the 5k at the MPSF Open Water Championships. 
  • Lais Gasparini E Silva placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.66 to lead the Spartans in their loss to UC Santa Barbara.
