SAN DIEGO - The San José State men's basketball team (9-19, 2-13 Mountain West) will battle No. 20 San Diego State (21-7, 10-5 Mountain West) on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Listen to the contest on KTRB 860 AM.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Spartans are coming off a defeat to Nevada on Friday evening in which three Spartans scored in double figures: Myron (MJ) Amey Jr., Latrell Davis and Alvaro Cardenas.
- Amey Jr. registered a team-high 18 points and made four 3-pointers.
- Davis produced 17 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
- Cardenas nearly recorded a double-double with 11 points and eight assists.
SEASON NOTABLES
- Amey Jr. is averaging 20.8 points per game over the last four games with 83 points total. He tallied at least 18 points in all four games.
- Davis was one of the top scorers for the Spartans in two of the previous three games. The freshman guard collected a career-high 20 points against Wyoming and 17 points versus Nevada.
- The Spartans are 5-0 when shooting over 50 percent this season. The five opponents against whom they have shot over 50 percent are Bethesda, Norfolk State, New Orleans, Santa Clara and Air Force.
- The Spartans are second in the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 8.64, behind only Air Force.
- Cardenas is 28th and 37th in Division I in assists per game (5.6) and assist/turnover ratio (2.73). In the conference, he is sixth and fifth in the two categories.
- Adrame Diongue is third in the conference in blocks per game at 1.46.
RECORD WATCH
- Tibet Görener is the Spartans’ all-time leader in made 3-pointers with 167. He became the record-holder on Feb. 6 against Fresno State when he knocked down his 162nd career shot from beyond the arc to pass Ryan Welage (2015-18).
- Cardenas ranks sixth all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 351. Omari Moore (2020-23) is fifth with 429.
- Trey Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 40.9 percent, connecting on 123 of 301 attempts.
- Along with Görener, Cardenas and T. Anderson also rank inside the top 10 in program history for most 3-pointers. Cardenas is sixth with 126 and T. Anderson is tied for eighth with 123.
VS. SAN DIEGO STATE
- The Aztecs are ranked 20th in the nation as they fell one spot from 19th in last week's rankings.
- The Aztecs suffered a loss last week at Utah State before bouncing back with a win over Fresno State.
- The Spartans are 35-48 all-time against the Aztecs.
- In the only meeting between the two teams earlier this season, on Jan. 9, the Spartans lost by only three, 81-78, and had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds.
- Cardenas and Amey Jr. each scored 20-plus points to lead the Spartans in the contest.
