Spartans Return to Bay Area For Matches Against USF, UC Davis

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Coming off a 4-1 win over CSUN, the San José State women's tennis team (5-1, 0-0 Mountain West) returns to the court this week for matches against the USF Dons (2-5, 0-0 WCC) and the UC Davis Aggies (4-8, 1-2 Big West). First up is a matchup with the Dons in San Francisco on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 11:30 a.m. at the Olympic Club. Following the contest, the Spartans will head back to San Jose where they will battle the Aggies on Saturday, March 2 at 12 p.m. at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

  • The Spartans swept CSUN in singles with Carolina Millan, Irena Muradyan, Cheuk Ying Shek, and Jovana Babic all picking up wins.
  • For Millan, it was his her fifth victory on court one this season as she is a perfect 5-0.
  • Muradyan and Ying Shek have led the Spartans in doubles for the year with a 5-1 record on court one.
  • Two Spartans have earned conference player of the week honors this season, Millan was named the player of the week on Jan. 31 and Cheuk Ying Shek was voted the freshman of the week on Jan. 31 and Feb. 21.
  • The Dons are coming off a 6-1 loss in their most recent match, also against CSUN, on Friday, Feb. 16.
  • The Aggies lost 4-2 to Saint Mary's in their previous match on Feb. 24, whom the Spartans defeated 4-3 on Feb. 16.
