PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif.—With pending bad weather in Southern California, the 19th-ranked San José State women’s golf team defeated No. 15 Clemson , 3-1-1, in the first match of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge Saturday at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
- The tournament, originally scheduled for play on Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 4-6, was changed to match play format on Friday and teams were placed into brackets.
- The Spartans were in a bracket with top-ranked Wake Forest, Clemson and Georgetown.
- SJSU faced Clemson in the first round, and with the win, the team advanced to play Wake Forest.
- Kajsa Arwefjäll, Moa Andersson and Rebecca Gyllner all won their matches for the Spartans.
- The Demon Deacons won two matches, and three matches were tied when play ended on Saturday.
- Pending weather, the Spartans face No. 7 Oregon on Sunday.
