Spartans Knock Off Cal Poly To Stay Unbeaten

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Rozalina Youseva clinched the match-winning point to lead San José State (3-0, 0-0 MW) in a 4-3 victory over Cal Poly (3-1, 1-0 Big West) on Friday afternoon.

  • The Spartans started by earning the doubles point with a 6-4 win in the No. 1 match from Cheuk Ying Shek and Irena Muradyan, followed by another 6-4 win in the No. 3 match from Youseva and Duru Durgun.
  • The Spartans made it 2-0 after Carolina Millan cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 straight-sets win in the No. 1 singles match.
  • Cal Poly was able to tie the match at 2-2 with wins in the Nos. 5 and 3 matches before Jovana Babic clinched the No. 6 match 7-6, 6-4 to put the Spartans one point away from the win.
  • Cal Poly made it 3-3 with a win in the No. 2 match before Youseva earned the match-winning point in the No. 4 match to give the Spartans the win.
  • Youseva won 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will go on the road to take on the University of San Francisco on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.
