Spartans Come Up Short in First Game of Judi Garman Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. - Ahmiya Noriega hit a two-run home run to lead San José State softball (5-5, 0-0 Mountain West) in a 14-6 six innings loss against Long Beach State (3-15, 0-0 Big West) Friday afternoon to open the Judi Garman Classic from Anderson Family Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.

The Spartans had won five straight before this contest.

  • For Ah. Noriega, that's her first home run of the season and she scored two runs in the game.
  • Reina Zermeno went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored.
  • Zermeno now has two doubles on the season.
  • Aubrie Thomas, Shay McDowell, and Zermeno scored runs thanks to Long Beach State errors.
  • McDowell went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • The Spartans put four runs up in the third inning and led 6-3 until Long Beach State put up five runs in  the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning to win the game with the run rule.
  • Long Beach State committed five errors on the day.

UP NEXT: The Spartans play their second and third games of the Judi Garman Classic on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against Oregon State and 5:30 p.m. against Weber State.
