Spartans Set for First Conference Matches Against Boise State and Nevada

BOISE, Idaho - The San José State women's tennis team (8-1, 0-0 Mountain West) will open Mountain West conference play this weekend with matchups against the Boise State Broncos (4-6, 0-0 Mountain West) and the Nevada Wolf Pack (5-4, 0-0 Mountain West). The Spartans will battle the Broncos in Boise, Idaho on Friday, March 15 at 11 a.m. MT/10 a.m. PT and there will be a live stream which can be viewed here. SJSU will conclude the weekend with a showdown versus Nevada on Sunday, March 17 with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

  • The Spartans went 3-0 last week with wins over UC Davis, San Francisco and Santa Clara.
  • Irena Muradyan and Duru Durgun were named the Mountain West Player of the Week and Mountain West Freshman of the Week, respectively.
  • Muradyan posted a 3-1 record with two singles wins and one doubles win.
  • Durgun went 5-0 with three straight-set wins in singles and two wins in doubles.
  • Carolina Millan leads the Spartans in singles with a 5-1 record in the No. 1 flight.
  • The No. 1 doubles pair of Muradyan and Cheuk Ying Shek are 6-2 together.
  • The Spartans lead the Mountain West Conference with five weekly awards in 2024; in addition to the honors for Muradyan and Durgun, Millan was named the Player of the Week on Jan. 31 while Ying Shek earned Freshman of the Week on Jan. 31 and Feb. 21.

VS. BOISE STATE

  • The Broncos ended a four-match losing streak by securing two wins over Lewis-Clark State on Saturday, March 9 
  • The Spartans have won their last two meetings against the Broncos and hold a 6-7 all-time record in the series.

VS. NEVADA 

  • The Wolf Pack are coming off two wins over Stanislaus State on Sunday, March 10.
  • The Spartans are 6-10 all-time against the Wolf Pack.
