SAN JOSE, Calif. – Reina Zermeno and Haley Reeve had big days at the plate to lead San José State softball (11-11, 2-1 MW) in a 9-3 win over New Mexico (8-23, 1-2 Mountain West) in the final game of this three game series opening up Mountain West play from Spartan Softball Stadium.
The Spartans got off to a good start putting up one run in the first inning, but the team did most of their damage offensively in the third and fifth innings where they put up five and two runs respectively. Multiple hitters had multi-hit games with Taylor Squires, Ashley Rico, Aneesa Almaguer, Zermeno and Reeve all tallying two hits each. In the circle, Alexis Toner was solid once again, coming in as relief in the second inning and retiring the first 10 hitters she faced before giving up her first hit.
- Zermeno went 2-for-3 with her second triple of the season, two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Reeve went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
- Rico went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and one run scored.
- Squires went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Almaguer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
- Shay McDowell went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
- Toner went 5.1 IP allowing only three hits, had two strikeouts, no earned runs and no walks.
