Spartans Begin Busy Stretch With Matches Against Hawaii and New Mexico

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State women's tennis team (9-2, 1-1 Mountain West) will host four matches in a span of seven days beginning with a showdown against Hawaii (6-6, 4-0 Big West) on Wednesday, March 20 at 12 p.m. The Spartans will also battle New Mexico (13-1, 2-0 Mountain West) on Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m. The first 75 fans at Friday's match will receive free tacos.

  • The Spartans are coming off a 4-0 win over Nevada on Sunday afternoon.
  • Irena Muradyan and Duru Durgun each won in singles and doubles to lead SJSU over the Wolf Pack.
  • The Spartans are 5-0 at the Spartan Tennis Complex this season.

DOUBLES DOMINANCE

  • The Spartans have taken eight of the 11 doubles points this season and are 7-1 in those matches.
  • In the No. 1 doubles flight, the pair of Muradyan and Ying Shek are 8-2.
  • The pair of Durgun and Rozalina Youseva are on a four-match winning streak and have compiled a 7-1 record on court three.

SINGLES SUCCESS

  • Muradyan and Ying Shek have each won their previous four matches in singles play with Muradyan competing on court two and Ying Shek playing on court three.
  • Millan leads the Spartans with a 5-2 record in the No. 1 singles flight.
  • The Spartans have a winning percentage of 50 percent or better on all six singles courts this season.

VS. HAWAII 

  • The Hawaii Rainbow Wahine are coming off a 4-2 loss to Pacific on Saturday.
