Spartans Drop Game One At UNLV

LAS VEGAS – Dalton Bowling added to his home run total, and Robert Hamchuk had a pair of doubles, but the San José State baseball team (3-6, 0-1 MW) fell 23-5 to UNLV (8-1, 1-0 MW) in their Mountain West opener on Friday night.

  • Bowling opened up the sixth inning with a home run on the first pitch he saw to bring his season total to three, and he also hit an RBI double in the ninth inning.
  • Bowling tied Hunter Dorraugh for the team lead with his home run, and he moved into a tie for third on the SJSU all-time home run list with the 25th of his career.
  • Hamchuk scored a run to go along with his two doubles in the game.
  • Sebastian Orduno kept his hot bat alive with a pair of singles and an RBI double in a 3-for-5 night at the plate.
  • His three hits ties his career high in a game.
  • Nathan Cadena went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI, his fourth extra-base hit of the season and team-high eighth RBI.
  • Jake Maroney brought in his first RBI of the season with a single in the top of the ninth inning.
  • Drew Stapleton came out of the bullpen and pitched four innings with a pair of strikeouts.
