FULLERTON, Calif. - Reina Zermeno had four hits and four RBIs, while Shay McDowell went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the late game to lead San José State softball (6-6, 0-0 Mountain West) in an 8-5 win over Weber State (9-10, 0-0 Big Sky) and a 8-0 five innings loss against Oregon State (9-10, 0-0 Pac-12) Saturday in the second day of the Judi Garman Classic from Anderson Family Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
Game 1 vs. Oregon State
- Zermeno and Rico were the only two to have hits for the Spartans.
- Zermeno hit her third double of the season.
- Oregon State scored three runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning.
- The game started one hour and 20 minutes late.
Game 2 vs. Weber State
- The Spartans were down 5-0 in the third inning, but chipped away throughout the game and then finally took the lead with a five run sixth inning thanks to Zermeno who hit a three RBI double and even stole home later in the inning.
- Zermeno went 3-for-4 and has three doubles this season and 11 RBIs to lead the Spartans.
- That was Zermeno's second stolen base of the season.
- McDowell went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a run scored.
- McDowell's nine RBIs are second on the team.
- Ashley Rico hit an RBI triple and now has two triples which is a team best.
- Rico also scored a run as well for the Spartans.
- Lacie Ham went 4.0 IP in relief and struck out six while letting in no runs on the way to her team best fourth win of the season.
- Aneesa Almaguer hit an RBI single for her fourth RBI of the season.
- Makayla Freshour went 2-for-3 and had two hits in a game for the first time in her career.
- The game started one hour and 25 minutes late.
