SAN JOSE, Calif. - Former San José State men's soccer player, Joel Garcia, has signed a contract with the San Jose Earthquakes II. The Earthquakes II are the reserve team of Major League Soccer's San José Earthquakes and participate in MLS Next Pro.
"I am really thankful for the opportunity that has been presented to me as a result of all of the support I have received throughout the course of my life, " said Garcia. "This is for all of the people who push me forward through adversity and continue to show immense support. I am super grateful for all the coaches and teammates at San José State as they not only gave me the chance to grow as a soccer player but also as a person. I will always keep my experience at San José State very close to my heart."
A native of Salinas, Calif., Garcia played for the Spartans from 2020-21 until 2023. He appeared in 41 matches and made 33 starts. He scored six goals and distributed two assists from his fullback position. Garcia was a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Freshman Team in 2020-21 and the All-WAC Preseason Team in 2023.
"I am really proud of Joel," said San José State head coach Simon Tobin. "One of the hardest working, grittiest players I have ever coached. He has a degree and can now chase his dream."
Garcia becomes the third player from the Spartans' 2023 roster to sign a professional contract, joining Beau Leroux and Isaac Lomeli.
