SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Michael Rice pitched a career-high five innings in his return to Santa Barbara as San José State (8-18, 4-8 MW) fell 3-2 in extra innings to UC Santa Barbara (14-8, 4-2 Big West) in game one on Thursday night.
- Rice, a UC Santa Barbara transfer, pitched his new career high in innings with five while also striking out a season-high four batters.
- Rice also only walked just one Gaucho in his return to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
- Nathan Cadena went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI double in the top of the first.
- Sebastian Orduno drove in the tying run in the eighth inning with a single that plated Jackson Forbes.
- Ethan Ross pitched four and one-third innings of relief, also striking out four batters.
